Coach Holcombe is the Varsity basketball coach for Dallas HSAA, where he leads a highly competitive high school team focused on skill development and teaching the fundamentals of the game. Under his guidance, the team has enjoyed notable success in recent years, including winning the gold ball in 2021 and competing in the Homeschool National Championship, where they finished ranked #2 in the nation, along with several district and regional titles.
A native of Houston, Texas, Coach Holcombe was recognized as the High School Player of the Year in 1983 and earned the distinction of being the #1 recruit in the state. He played at Texas Christian University, receiving accolades as the Southwest Conference Player of the Year in both 1983 and 1987. Following his selection in the 1987 NBA Draft by the Cleveland Cavaliers, he enjoyed a six-year professional career in Europe. After transitioning to coaching, Carven has spent 11 years mentoring young athletes in both private and public school settings. Now in his fifth year at Dallas HSAA, he is dedicated to cultivating responsible and respectful young men who play to honor God.
Coach Holcombe’s basketball foundation was significantly shaped by his experiences at the Jeb Basketball School (JEBBS) during his school years, where he developed essential skills and learned the importance of teamwork and dedication. The values instilled in him at JEBBS continue to inform his coaching philosophy today, as he strives to empower athletes both in their sports journey and personal growth.
